Lohit is a leading administrative district within Arunachal Pradesh and its headquarters are at Tezu. The district was once ruled by the Chutiya Kingdom rulers back in the 13th century. The Dibang Valley District was divided in 1980 from Lohit. The Anjaw District was also divided from the Lohit District sometime earlier along with the Namsai area. The total area of the Lohit District now stands at 2,402 square kilometers, with a population estimated at 49,776 people as of the year 2011. The coordinates of Lohit are 27.9040° N, 96.1739° E.
