Built on reclaimed land area by CIDCO, Koparkhairane is a well-planned and upcoming suburban residential township in the outskirts of Mumbai and in Navi Mumbai. Kopakhairane is a part of the many small villages that were developed by CIDCO as part of the developmental project for Navi Mumbai. This node of Navi Mumbai has mostly been built on reclaimed land and it is roughly situated between Ghansoli and Turbhe on the Thane-Vashi railway line. When Navi Mumbai was being developed in 1971 as the new urban satellite township of Mumbai, CIDCO planned for the development of 14 small nodes of which Koparkhairane was a part and also included neighbouring villages of Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul, Airoli, Ulwe, Dronagiri, Taloja, Karanjade, Kalamboli, Belapur, Kharghar, Kamothe, New Panvel and Ghansoli.
