Bid, situated on the Deccan Plateau, is the administrative headquarters of the Beed district in Maharashtra. Beed was probably founded by the Yadava rulers (1173–1317) but was later governed by the Nizams during the era of British India. In September 1948, The Indian Armed Forces invaded Hyderabad and overthrew The Nizam. Until 1956 Beed was included in the Bombay Presidency. On 1 May 1960, Maharashtra state was created and formed the Beed district in Maharashtra. Beed also has mythological significance. People believe that Beed is the place where Jatayu died while saving Sita. Another legend narrates that Durgavati was the name of Beed during the era of Pandavas and Kauravas. With an area of 11935.92 sq km, Beed has a population of 2985526, including 1551248 males and 1434278 females, and the literacy rate here is 88.56% (according to the data collected in 2020).
