Ahmedabad, Chennai and Bangalore have featured in the Worldwide Cost of Living Report 2022 as some of the most affordable cities to live in globally.
According to the report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Damascus, Tripoli and Tehran are the top-3 cheapest cities to live in 2022. Ahmedabad and Chennai are ranked as the 8th and 9th most affordable cities to live in while Bangalore has bagged the 11th position. Neighbouring Karachi is ranked 6th at the index.
Conducted between August and September this year, the survey compares over 400 individual prices across over 200 products and services in world’s 172 cities around the world.

Meanwhile, New York and Singapore have tied up this year to claim the dubious distinction of being world’s costliest cities to live in.

The report shows that the average cost of living in the world’s 172 cities increased by over 8% in the past one year ─ the highest rate in the 20 years for which the EIU has digital cost-of-living data. In comparison, there was only a 4.5% average increase in cost of living in Asian countries.
