The Airoli Bridge is a 3850-metre long crossing that connects the suburban areas of Navi Mumbai with the city of Mumbai. The bridge was constructed in 1999 and is one of the longest bridges in India.

It is a cable-stayed bridge with a longest span of 1030 metres (3379 foot). It was constructed to ease the traffic congestion on the existing Thane Creek Bridge, the only crossing between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai at the time. The Airoli Bridge has two levels – the lower level for vehicular traffic and the upper level for pedestrians and cyclists.

Airoli Bridge: History

Until the mid-1990s, the Thane Creek Bridge was the only crossing between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, resulting in much traffic congestion. Proposals were made to construct a new bridge in the Airoli area to ease this problem. Construction of the Airoli Bridge began in 1994 with the help of the Indian Navy’s engineering wing. It finally opened to the public in 1999.

Since its construction, the bridge has been featured in several Bollywood films and has become a popular tourist spot. It offers stunning cityscape views and is excellent for watching the sunset.
