May 9, 2024: The Bangalore Metro is witnessing expansion as 16 interchange metro stations are expected to be added across the city in addition to the existing Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange station in Majestic, according to media reports.
According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) officials, the upcoming Phase 2 and Phase 3 metro projects will include 16 interchange stations, which will ensure seamless connectivity between various metro lines of the Namma Metro network, as per a report by The Hindu.
At present, the Majestic interchange station is the only interchange point in the Namma Metro network, connecting the Purple and Green lines. With around 50,000 passengers utilising this station every day for interline transfers, the addition of 16 new interchange stations aims to further improve commuter convenience and encourage greater reliance on metro services for daily travel.
The upcoming interchange stations will be located at key junctions such as Jayadeva Junction on Bannerghatta Road, MG Road, KR Puram, Hosahalli, Mysuru Road, Peenya RV Road, JP Nagar, JP Nagar 4th stage, Dairy Circle, Nagavara, Kempapura, Hebbal, Agara, Central Silk Board and Sumanahalli Cross.
Among these, the multi-level interchange metro station at Jayadeva Junction is expected to be the largest in the city and to be opened by the end of this year. The metro station will link the Yellow and Pink Lines of the Bangalore Metro, offering a vital hub for both lines.
Moreover, the Yellow Line will feature a double-decker flyover, enabling seamless integration between road traffic and metro. The Jayadeva Junction interchange metro station is expected to be partially opened alongside the inauguration of the Yellow Line, with full operational capacity expected upon the commencement of the Pink Line.
