Bhopal Metro: Construction overview
To cater to the need for efficient public transportation, the Bhopal Metro has been planned and is being implemented by the MPMRCL. The Bhopal Metro project has received approval from the Centre and the Madhya Pradesh government. It was started on September 2019 and the foundation stone was laid by the chief minister.
The 105-kilometre master plan for the Bhopal Metro was created by Rohit Associates Cities & Rails Pvt. Ltd. It proposes for the construction of 6 metro lines, of which 2 (lines 2 & 5) would be implemented in Phase 1 of the project.
Bhopal Metro: Cost
A total investment of Rs 10,033 crore has been allocated for the 30.8-km network, out of which the phase 1 project cost was Rs 2,225 crore.
A loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for official development assistance (ODA) and a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for 400 million euros, both of which were agreed upon on December 20, 2019, is expected to contribute to the project’s partial funding. It would likely cost more than Rs 14,000 crore.
The MPMRCL is constructing the two lines and 28 stations of the Bhopal Metro project. MPMRCL is a 50:50 state-centre partnership. The MP Metro Rail Network’s initial segment, in Bhopal and Indore, is anticipated to be operational by September 2023.
The state government and the federal government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of metro rail lines in Bhopal and Indore on August 19, 2019.

Bhopal metro to have airport-like facilities, feature food plazas and ATMs

They will be equipped with major facilities, including food plazas, shops and other amenities. Earlier, the Indore metro station was also built on similar lines with airport-like amenities.
Bhopal Metro: Real estate impact
Enhanced connectivity
The Bhopal Metro network has been planned to boost connectivity within the city. The metro route will improve accessibility to key commercial and residential areas such as AIIMS, MP Nagar, etc. The metro will offer a fast and affordable means of transportation for the residents while reducing traffic congestion on the roads.
Increased demand for properties
The metro project is expected to transform the localities along its route. The development of the metro corridor will attract businesses, increasing demand for commercial properties such as shops and retail spaces. Besides, with smooth connectivity, the demand for homes – both for buying and renting- is expected to increase.
Price appreciation and future growth potential
Areas near the metro stations will see increased demand for properties. Owing to this, property prices are also expected to rise. Moreover, as the metro expansion progresses and becomes fully operational, prices will rise steadily. This is going to benefit investors seeking higher returns and increased rental yield.
