Chenab Bridge J&K: Fact guide

The upcoming Chenab Bridge, which will become the tallest railway bridge in the world upon completion, will span the titular river between Bakkal and Kauri. The bridge is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). The bridge, featuring a half-km steel arch, is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,400 crore.

Chenab Bridge: Construction

The much-talked about arch was finished in April 2021 while the entire construction was completed in August 2022. Being built at a height of 1,178 foot above the riverbed, the bridge is anticipated to be operational for rail transportation by December 2023.

The current railway connection to Kashmir consists mostly of a 25-km section from Udhampur to Katra, an 18-km section from Banihal to Qazigund in the Valley, and a 118-km section from Qazigund to Baramulla.
