Delhi Metro introduces QR-based tickets across routes

May 9, 2023: In a move that will benefit Delhi Metro commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced a QR code-based paper ticket on all its lines. The new ticketing facility will provide an alternative to traditional tokens.

The DMRC has upgraded its Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates and customer care counters to make the new facility available to passengers. Initially, two AFC gates at the entry and exit of all metro stations were upgraded to support QR-based paper tickets. The DMRC will soon introduce mobile-based QR tickets to make metro services more seamless and save commuting time. Thus, passengers will not require to purchase tickets at stations or counters. Further, the DMRC plans to phase out the concept of physical tokens.

Guidelines to use QR-based paper ticket

Furthermore, DMRC plans to make all the AFC gates across the Delhi metro network QR code-compliant by June-end this year. It will also undertake the upgradation of Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) for issuing QR-based paper tickets.
