Delhi road projects worth over Rs 60k cr to be ready by 2023

Eastern Peripheral Expressway: All you need to know

Delhi is set to witness improved road connectivity as four expressways – Dwarka Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, and Urban Extension Road – will be ready in 2023. Once operational, the expressways will ease traffic in and around the National Capital Region. Moreover, the construction of three flyovers and underpasses in the city is underway. Aimed at tackling Delhi’s traffic problems, the central government is developing projects worth Rs 60,000 crore.

The four expressways will boost connectivity to major cities in 2023:

Dwarka Expressway

Construction on the eight-lane expressway is expected to complete by August 2023. The 29-km expressway is being built with the aim of reducing traffic jams around the Delhi-Haryana border. The expressway route is close to Highway 48 between Delhi and Jaipur.

Delhi Mumbai Expressway

The 1,380-km expressway will connect Delhi and Mumbai. Once operational, it will cut down the travel time from 24 hours to 12 hours and reduce traffic congestion in Delhi and NCR. It will be linked to the eastern and western peripheral expressways. A connection road is being developed between Delhi and Mumbai from the Ashram underpass. The expressway is scheduled for inauguration on January 26, 2023.

Delhi Dehradun Expressway

It is a 210-km long expressway, developed with an estimated cost of around Rs 13,000 crore. The route covering a 14-km section in Delhi and the 12-km stretch in Ghaziabad will have 12 lanes. It will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun by four hours.

Urban Extension Road

The 75.6-km long Urban Extension Road 2 will link the IGI Airport to the Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Dwarka, and Delhi-Mumbai Expressways. Commuters need not travel via Delhi to go to reach other places once this road is operational by 2023 end.
