Greater Noida sends notices to 28 housing societies over non-functional STPs

January 4, 2024: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) issued notices to 28 housing societies in Noida Extension (Greater Noida West) for alleged non-functional sewage treatment plants (STPs). This action comes after last month’s notices to 37 group housing societies regarding improper sewage disposal. The GNIDA has warned developers of strict actions if corrective measures are not taken.

According to regulations in Greater Noida, projects covering an area of 20,000 square metres (sqm) or more must establish and maintain their own STPs. Residents had been complaining to the GNIDA that either STPs had not been constructed or, in some cases, were non-functional. The GNIDA, in a statement on January 2, 2024, mentioned that notices had been sent to 28 additional builder societies that failed to construct and operate STPs according to the required standards. The societies were instructed to provide clarification within a week, and if unsatisfactory responses are received, actions will be taken as per the terms of the lease deed.

Among the societies issued notices are Gaur City 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 14, 16 Avenue, Golf Home, Park Avenue 1, Galaxy North Avenue, Ajnara Le Garden, Gulshan Belena, Nirala Aspire, Panchsheel Greens Two, Casa Green, La Solara Grande, Royal Court, Victory One, Kabanas Green, Ratan Pearl, Supertech Eco Village Two and Three, Panchsheel Green 1, Ajnara Homes, Radha Sky Garden, French Apartment and Gaur Saundaryam.

The GNIDA’s additional CEO, Ashutosh Dwivedi, emphasised that builders failing to construct STPs in their residential projects must do so promptly, in compliance with National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders. Strict actions, including heavy fines, will be imposed on non-compliant societies. Legal action will be taken if improvements are not observed, following NGT directives.
