How to do Ganesh puja and Stapana?

Come the months of August and September, also known as the Hindu month Bhadrapada, and we start with the preparations of welcoming lord Ganesh for Ganesh Chaturthi. This festival which falls on the fourth day of the waxing moon period celebrates the birthday of Lord Ganesh (and so the name Chaturthi).

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated by installing the idol of lord Ganesha, doing Puja and serving him all through his stay on earth. People can do a Ganesh puja at home or get his idol, do puja and finally immerse the idol going forward. Ganesh stapana can be done for one and half days, three days, five days, seven days or ten days, after which the idol is in water.
