A cardboard playhouse is a fun craft project that you can build for your child. This can give you and your children a chance to bond and spend some quality time together. As a bonus, the cardboard home can serve as the perfect storage solution for all their toys, ensuring the tidiness of the rest of the house. So, let’s learn how to make a cardboard playhouse.
Cardboard home construction: Materials needed
- A large appliance box as well as extra cardboard boxes for building materials
- Pretty gift wrapping (optional)
- 1-inch thick ribbon for door hinges
- A box cutter knife
- Sturdy scissors
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Tape for packing various embellishments (fake flowers, construction paper, and so forth)
Cardboard home construction: Procedure
- Save the bottom cardboard flaps from a large appliance box for later use.
- Tape the top flaps upright and to each other if utilising a shorter appliance box (such as a dishwasher box). Use packing tape to secure the corners.
- Cut a rectangle out of one side of the box to make a door. Save the cut-out door for later use. Remove the windows.
- Wrap the home with wrapping paper, sealing the edges with tape or hot glue. You can use printed kraft paper. To cover the entire house, you will need more than one roll.
- Create a slanted roof on top of the box with bottom box flaps. Tape together and attach with packing tape to the main house box.
- Cut pieces of cardboard to make ‘shingles’, then hot glue them on the roof’s sloped side. Decorate the rest of the roof as desired. For the front of the house’s roof, you can punch out circles.
- Wrap a piece of cardboard in wrapping paper and hang it with ribbon hinges hot glued to the door.

You can install three ribbon hinges on the door: one at the top, one in the centre, and one at the bottom. After that, decorate the house. You can customise the cardboard home however you wish.
