December 18, 2023: The Maharashtra state government has okayed a skeletal proposal to develop Third Mumbai, a new city around the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
The Third Mumbai city will focus on providing housing, transport and Infrastruture facilities to support the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
This is in line with the proposal that was spoken about by Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. This is the place where the biggest data centres in the country are being constructed. It will be the centre of the digital economy of the country, mentioned Fadnavis.
As of now, we have 2 Mumbais – Mumbai and Navi Mumbai but once all our infra projects are completed, a third Mumbai will be created.
Along with roads & metros, our major emphasis is on port-led connectivity and ecosystem!

As part of the new project, the New Town Development Authority (NTDA) will be formed that will have close to 200 villages under it.
Also, a business district similar to the Bandra Kurla Complex to be developed near Kharghar is in the cards.
