MCD extends deadline to geotag properties to Mar 31; know the steps

March 1, 2024: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), on February 29, 2024, extended the deadline for geotagging properties to March 31, 2024, the authority said in an official statement as per media reports. Property owners in Delhi can get their properties geotagged till the end of March and avail of a 10% rebate on lump sum advance tax payments in the next financial year.

Earlier, the MCD extended the last date to geo-tag properties from January 31, 2024, to February 29, 2024. As cited in reports, the MCD statement said it has come to notice that a large number of taxpayers have not been able to geotag their properties so far. Therefore, in order to give an opportunity to taxpayers, it has been decided to extend the last date of geo-tagging of properties till March 31, 2024.

If the taxpayers fail to geotag their properties, they cannot avail the rebate on lump sum payment of tax by June 30 in the financial year 2024-25, the statement said.

What is geotagging of properties?

Geotagging properties refers to digitally mapping a property with the geographic information system (GIS). This helps identify a property on a map with its unique and permanent latitude and longitude coordinates.
