MCD provides Delhi residents with training on geo-tagging homes

December 12, 2023: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on December 9 and 10, 2023, conducted training camps across 200 locations in the national capital aiming to educate citizens on geo-tagging their homes. This initiative closely follows the MCD’s recent announcement that geo-tagging properties will be mandatory for property tax exemption. During these training camps, citizens were briefed on the significance and advantages of geo-tagging their properties. They were also guided through the entire process, from downloading the mobile app to geo-tagging their properties with photos.

Property owners who are not registered on the MCD Property Tax Portal were informed that they must register their properties, generate a UPIC and subsequently geotag their properties. Failure to complete this process by January 31, 2024, will prompt the MCD to take legal measures for tax recovery and initiate cases against defaulters.

To facilitate geo-tagging, the MCD introduced the MCD App, a mobile application for geo-tagging all residential and non-residential properties. Property owners are required to download this app from the Google Play Store or visit the MCD website. Additionally, citizens were briefed about the Sahbhagita scheme, encouraging active participation from resident welfare associations (RWAs) to enhance tax collection and improve waste management.

Property owners without a UPIC number for their properties must first generate UPIC and then follow the provided steps for geo-tagging. Beyond awareness camps, various communication channels will be utilised to acquaint property owners with the geo-tagging process.
