Modi will inaugurate Ayodhya Airport on December 30

Prime minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ayodhya Airport on December 30, 2023. The new airport will help the old city handle the expected spike in the number of travelers to the birthplace of Lord Ram.

On December 30, private carrier IndiGo would operate the inaugural flight from Delhi to the upcoming airport. When commercial services on the airport start from January 6, 2024, Indigo will offer flights to major cities such as Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, and Goa.

Formally known as the Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport, the airport has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs 350 crore under the Centre’s Regional Connectivity Scheme. Located 8 km from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the airport is expected to turn into a hub of air travel after the grand opening of the Ram mandir.

“This state-of-the-art airport symbolises our commitment to enhance air connectivity and promote tourism in the holy city of Ayodhya. Under the leadership of PM Modi, this project will not only boost regional development but also honour the rich cultural heritage associated with Lord Ram. I am confident that the airport will pave the way for Ayodhya’s growth and prosperity,” Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said earlier.

Flaunting a design that would give visitors a glimpse of the Ramayana era, the Ayodhya Airport would resemble the Ram temple in elevation.

“The design of the airport will reflect the idea and spirit of Ram Mandir, invoking a sense of spirituality and creating a sense of place for all passengers arriving and departing from the airport… The glass façade of the terminal will be designed to recreate a sense of being in the very palace of Ayodhya,” AAI said in a press statement.
