May 29, 2024: The Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday told media persons that the remaining part of phase-1 of the Mumbai Coastal Road between Marine Drive and Haji Ali will be opened by June 10. Reports mention that the BMC is also exploring options of opening the coastal road from the Worli side too. The entire stretch of the Mumbai Coastal Road from Marine Drive to Haji Ali is expected to be opened by October 2024.
The south-bound arm of the Mumbai Coastal Road forming phase-1 between Worli and Marine Drive covering 9.5 km of the total 10.58 km was partially opened to the public on March 11, 2024 by chief minister Shinde.
In a related development, the CM also inspected leakages at the south-bound corridor near the Marine Drive end. The leakages have been identified in around two-three expansion joints of the Mumbai Coastal Road which will be fixed with the help of polymer grouting.
Reports also mention that the CM has advised on polymer grouting on all 25 joints on each side of the tunnel so that water seepage can be tackled and be monsoon ready. Media reports mention that the Shinde assured that the repair work will not cause any inconvenience to the vehicular movement and motorists.
