However, as per media reports, the Maharashtra state government’s Urban Development Department, in September 2023, issued a notice directing the extension of the Mumbai Metro Line 2B from Mandale to Cheetah Camp. With this, the metro route will be extended by 1.02 km at an additional cost of around Rs 205 crore.
Mumbai Metro 2B cancelled stations
- The MMRDA station and the Kurla Terminus were two stations that were originally proposed to be part of the Metro 2B route.
- The MMRDA station was cancelled as it overlapped with the Kalanagar flyover ramp.
- The Kurla Terminus station was cancelled because it was in the path of the restricted funnel zone for Juhu Aerodrome. Also, the Kurla station was around 474 m from the proposed SG Barve Marg station. The location planned for this station was between the Santa Cruz–Chembur Link Road (SCLR) rail overbridge.
Mumbai Metro Line 2B: Real estate impact
With better connectivity and shorter commute times, the Mumbai real estate market adjacent to Mumbai Metro Line 2B will see significant growth. However, most projects in these areas will be either resale or redevelopment projects.
The Mumbai Metro Line 2B is one of the busiest routes in Mumbai connecting western Mumbai with northern suburbs such as Chembur. Travel by road from DN Nagar to Chembur has in the past resulted in too much time during peak hours and getting stuck in traffic jams. With the Mumbai Metro 2B, this area will be decluttered. Also, being the busiest route with many commercial spaces on the way, the coming up of the Mumbai Metro 2B will definitely spike the real estate prices in this region.
