Mumbai police issue preventive order to property owners

How to do tenant police verification in Delhi?

May 8, 2023: The Mumbai police have issued a preventive order to people renting out their properties. According to the notification, landlords have to submit tenant details to the Mumbai police through its web portal. Valid for 60 days, the order will be in effect till July 6, 2023.

According to the order, anti-social elements may seek hideouts in residential areas, which may pose a danger to human life and public/private property. This order was issued to ensure the prevention of such activities.

The police added that if the tenant was a foreigner, the owner and the tenant should also provide the passport number, the place and the date of issue, the validity and visa details, including the visa number, the category, the place and the date of issue, the validity, the registration place and the reason for stay in the city, as additional details.

Property owners who violate this preventive order can be tried under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Providing false information to the police is a punishable offence. In case of any discrepancy found in the information, legal action will be taken against the people concerned.
