Mumbai potholes: Boards put up in Kalyan, to warn motorists

The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has put up boards, cautioning motorists that due to heavy rains, the roads had been damaged, resulting in potholes and asking them to drive their vehicles carefully. Heavy rains during the last weeks have severely damaged roads in Kalyan and left them with several potholes. Over the past few weeks, at least five people have lost their lives, in accidents on potholes. The last death was reported on Saturday, July 14, 2018.

KDMC’s public relations officer Prasad Thakur, in an official release, said the work of filling up of potholes had been taken up on a war footing. Of the 529 potholes identified by the civic body, 383 had been filled up till July 16, 2018, he said. In a related development, Thane civic commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal held a meeting of senior corporation officials and instructed them to fill up potholes in the city, on a priority basis.

His counterpart in the KDMC, Govind Bodke, also held an emergency meeting with officials and asked engineers and ward officers, to concentrate on the pothole-filling work. Bodke also cancelled the leaves of engineers and ward officers. Guardian minister Eknath Shinde, asked civic officials in Thane and KalyanDombivli to fill up potholes on a priority basis, to avert more accidents.
