Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai Bullet Train Project: Route, Map

The Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai Bullet Train project is picking up pace as land surveys are underway. The aerial survey is expected to start soon, according to media reports. A Hyderabad-based firm will conduct the satellite and land surveys. Once the surveys are completed, the firm will draft a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed high-speed-rail-corridor. So far, the land survey from Chennai to Kolar has been completed.

The proposed bullet train corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Mysore and Chennai to around one hour and 10 minutes.

 

According to media reports, NHSRCL has already awarded contracts for the preparation of General Alignment Drawings, surveying, identification of overhead, overground, and underground utilities, and identification of power sourcing options for substations.

Mysore Bangalore Chennai Bullet Train: Project details

The Chennai-Bangalore-Mysore high-speed rail corridor will cover a distance of 435 km connecting the three cities. It will comprise nine stations in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Some years ago, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) set the groundwork for the project by conducting an analytical ridership research.

• The survey’s analysis of traffic data will provide insights into the demand and ridership projections for the high-speed rail corridor.
• The survey will consider traffic data obtained over the last five years from toll plazas along the Bengaluru-Chennai highway, along with concurrent rail and air travel data.
• The comprehensive survey will be based on data sources, with inputs from government and private bus operators, vehicle registration records of the last five years.
• The survey’s results will help in determining the fare structure, considering insights from the Willingness to Pay (WTP) factor.
