December 28, 2023: In a move to ease property tax collection, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on December 27, 2023, announced that all properties under its jurisdiction will be geo-tagged in the financial year 2024-25, according to media reports. The announcement was made by the NDMC chairperson Amit Yadav while presenting the budget for 2024-25.
According to the council, this exercise will require the uploading of photographs of properties. This can be done by the users themselves through a mobile app or the NDMC website https://www.ndmc.gov.in/.
The comprehensive geo-tagging initiative launched by the civic body will enhance property assessment accuracy, giving a clear picture of the type of property – commercial, non-commercial, self-occupied, rented, etc.
There is no proposal to hike property tax rates in the budget. However, the NDMC aims to increase revenue collection by property tax, which is projected to be Rs 1,150 crore in 2024-25. The NDMC presented a budget surplus of Rs 240.2 crore and a revenue of Rs 5,096 crore for 2024-25.
Recently, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) made geo-tagging of all properties mandatory to avail of property tax exemption. Property owners can geo-tag MCD property by downloading the mobile application Unified Mobile App (UMA) or visiting the official website at https://mcdonline.nic.in/mcdapp.html.
