PM inaugurates Delhi Airport Metro Express Line extension

September 18, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 inaugurated the extension of the Delhi Airport Metro Express Line till the Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 Station. So far, the last station on this route was the Dwarka Sector 21 metro station. The prime minister arrived at the Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 Metro Station via the metro from the Dhaula Kuan Metro Station.

“Passenger operations on this new extension will be started from 3 PM on Sunday (September 17). With the addition of this section, the total length of the Airport Express Line from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 will be 24.9 km,” the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said in a statement.

So far, services on the Airport Express Line were available till the Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station. With the addition of the nearly 2 km-long extension of Delhi Airport Metro Express Line, also known as with its colour Code Orange Line, the number of stations on this route also increases to 7 from 6. This line has an interchange point with the Delhi Metro Blue Line at the Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station.

The new metro station has three subways. The first 735-m subway connects the station with an exhibition hall, a convention centre and a central arena at the station. The second one connects the entry/exit across the Dwarka Expressway while the third one connects the metro station to the foyer of the future exhibition halls of Yashobhoomi. The metro station has 7 gates, leading to the exhibition halls’ foyer within Yashobhoomi.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro has also increased the operational speed of the metro trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hr. The move will cut the travel time from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 to 21 minutes.
