PM Modi launches light house project in Lucknow, Ranchi

March 11, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10 inaugurated the Light House Projects (LHP) in Lucknow and Ranchi under which more than 2,000 affordable flats have been built with modern infrastructure. The foundation stone of these LHPs was laid by the Prime Minister on January 1, 2021.

Light House Projects or LHPs are model housing projects with houses built with shortlisted alternate technology suitable to the geo-climatic and hazard conditions of the region. Under this plan, cutting-edge technology is used to build resilient housing projects at a fast pace. The use of new construction technology has brought down the overall construction cost, making properties more affordable in the world’s most populous country. The innovative construction technology employed in these LHPs will give the families a sustainable and futuristic living experience.

Under the programme, housing projects are being built in six locations across the country. These locations are Agartala, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, Chennai and Ranchi. The minimum size of units in Light House Projects are as per the prevailing guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

For the Ranchi LHP, Germany’s precast concrete construction system-3D volumetric technology has been adopted. A unique feature of LHP Ranchi is that each room has been made separately and then the entire structure has been added like Lego blocks.  LHP Lucknow on the other hand has been constructed using Canada’s Stay-in place PVC formwork with pre-engineered steel structural system.

Earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated similar projects in Chennai, Rajkot and Indore.
