Telangana govt finalises 70-km route under Hyderabad Metro Phase-2

Hyderabad Metro: All you need to know

January 23, 2024: The Telangana government has finalised and approved the new routes for the proposed Phase 2 expansion of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) spanning 70 kilometre, according to media reports.

Chief minister A Revanth Reddy directed officials to take up the Hyderabad Metro expansion project to ensure connectivity with the Shamshabad airport from different parts of the city, considering the increased traffic congestion and the future public transportation demand.

Earlier, Reddy ordered the scrapping of the airport metro routes from Raidurg and instructed the HMRL to prepare a new route map, extending the metro network to new areas and linking them to the airport.

According to the HMRL, the main objective of the newly designed Metro rail connectivity is to provide public transportation to a larger number of people at a low cost.

Presently, the HMRL operates three metro corridors – Miyapur to LB Nagar, JBS station to MGBS and Nagole to Raidurg, spanning 69 km. In Phase 2, a total of 70 km will be added to the metro network. The corridor connecting Secunderabad-Jubilee Bus Station to MGBS will be extended up to Chandrayangutta crossroads via Falaknuma.

The existing Nagole Metro terminal station will be extended up to LB Nagar Metro terminal station and then to the international airport in Shamshabad through Chandrayangutta crossroads, covering 29 km. From LB Nagar, another route will connect to Vanasthalipuram and Hayathnagar, covering 8 km. Other new routes include Mailardevpally junction on the airport route to the proposed High Court complex at Rajendranagar through Aramghar.

The existing route terminating at Raidurg Metro station will be extended by 8 km until the US Consulate office in the Financial District through Nanakramguda junction. Another route will extend from Miyapur terminal station to Patancheru through BHEL.
