Building plan: Types of building plans and their significance

November 23, 2023: The Trichy district administration has invited applications from qualified professionals, including civil engineers, to obtain temporary recognition to issue plan approvals to applicants in rural areas, according to a TOI report.

According to the statement cited in the media report, Trichy collector M Pradeepkumar said the Tamil Nadu government has introduced an online service to apply for building plan approval for residential and commercial buildings, residential plots and industries in rural areas. Construction engineers and technical experts can send their applications to get recognition from the district administration to make building plans and issue them to people.

Architects, engineers, structural engineers, construction engineers, quality auditors, town planners and developers can apply for recognition by furnishing photocopies of documents such as educational certificates, Aadhaar cards, etc. Applications must be sent to the email address adptry@nic(dot)in or the office of the Assistant Director of Panchayats before November 24, 2023.

Further, the collector observed that the recognition is issued only on a temporary basis, and he has the sole discretion to issue recognition or reject the application.

What is building plan approval?

Before starting any construction work, the builder is required to obtain the building plan sanctioned by the local authorities. According to Section 47 (A) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1971, planning permission is required in both plan and non-plan areas. The Tamil Nadu Single Window Portal for Planning Permission is a one-stop platform for submitting applications for building plans.
