Types of windows

Depending on its location, usage, building material and inner mechanism, a widow can be of varying types. This is the topic for discussion in this guide.

 

Fixed windows

A window set in a permanently closed position is known as a fixed window.

Sliding windows

A sliding window opens through horizontal movement along the top and bottom track in a frame.

Pivoted windows

With a hinge installed on opposite sides of a frame, pivoted windows can rotate 90°-180° around a horizontal or vertical axis.

Double-hung windows

Double-hung windows are rectangular ones with two sashes — upper and lower. Both the sashes are functional and move up and down.

Louvered windows

Louvered windows have shutters with horizontal slats that allow proper ventilation and light. The slats can be opened and closed to act as shutters.

Casement windows

Also known as crank windows, casement windows have hinges at the side and opens outward to either side.
