Unorganised Workers Index Number card or UWIN card can be used to to access EPFO and ESIC-managed social security schemes and programmes.

The Gujarat’s government has introduced the UWIN card for people working in the unorganised sector.

What is UWIN card?

The Unorganised Workers Index Number card or UWIN Card was developed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in 2014. The Gujarat government introduced the UWIN card for workers in the informal sector. 

Beneficiaries can use this card to access EPFO and ESIC-managed social security schemes and programmes. It is a unique number issued to undocumented employees as proof of identification.

All workers in the informal sector are required to register themselves under the UWIN programme. About 47 crore workers are expected to register under the scheme. The Gujarat government has set a budget of Rs 402 crore to implement the project.

 

UWIN card: Goal

The U WIN Card’s main goal is to develop a single database of informal workers so that they can be identified and receive social security benefits. This card will also incorporate family information based on nuclear and linked family concepts, assisting the government in launching various family-based schemes. This system will also help recognising and supporting skills, areas for development, business and worker mapping, policy formation, and data-driven decision-making.

 

Uwin card Gujarat: Benefits and features

The Gujarat government launched the UWIN Card for the workers in the informal sector. Through this card, beneficiaries can avail of social security schemes or programmes managed by EPFO and ESIC. Unorganised Workers Index Number is a unique number that will be serve as an identity proof for these workers.

Aside from that, the government can create a database of all the workers in the informal sector. On the eNirman portal or app, beneficiaries can sign up to receive this card.

 

UWIN Card: Eligibility criteria

  • The applicant must be a permanent Gujarat resident.
  • The applicant’s age should be between 18 and 60 years old.
  • Anyone interested in applying for this programme must be a disorganised sector worker and must have worked in the construction industry for at least 90 days in the previous 12 months.

  • You must input your full name, Aadhaar number, gender, birth date, mobile number, email address, password, user type, and captcha code on this page.
  • You must now click on “register.”
  • You must now log in using your user ID, password, and captcha code.
  • After that, you must click on the UWIN card application.
  • You must fill out the relevant information on this page.
  • After that, you must upload the necessary documents before clicking “Submit.”
