Rourkela is a city in the northern part of Odisha and is known to be the third-largest Agglomeration in the state. It is 328 km towards the western part of Bhubaneshwar, with a range of hills, Koel River, Sankha, and Brahma on its side. The city is known as Steel City and Ispar Nagar. The place is popular for Rourkela Steel Plant, set up long back with German collaboration. It has been selected as the smart city under the National cities mission and the fastest moving city.
Rourkela is at 84.54E longitude and 22.12N latitude. It is located in the Sundergarh district of Odisha and has 219 metres. Spread over 200 square kilometres, it is situated on the Howrah-Mumbai railway track; it has the advantage of a steel plant. The city has a total of 536,450 people living.
