In the year 1905, “The Phoenix Mills Ltd. ” (PML) began operations as a textile manufacturing company on 17.3 acres land in Lower Parel, Mumbai and was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange in the year 1959.

Mr. Bharatkumar Ruia is one of the well-known dignitaries in the Mills industry since 70`s era. Upon joining the family business, his dynamic approach helped PML grow multi fold. With his unflinching ability, he overcame two saddest phases in life of PML, namely fire incident and a major strike.

Mumbai's mills went through a turbulent me in the 1980s and '90s and being visionary, Mr. Ruia took the initiative of transforming the mill business into a commercial zone and started evolving & devising the plans for the same.

It will not be wrong if he is credited for transformation of Lower Parel and abutting areas. The journey of Phoenix Mills also mirrors the road taken by Mr. Ruia, who having foreseen the future of textile industry in the country, decided to venture out into new territories and thus ‘BR International’ was born to tap the potentials of the real estate industry in the country.
