June 13, 2023: The priority section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in Ghaziabad is set to become operational soon. Rapidx train commuters can use UPI payment apps to buy their tickets. UPI-based ticket vending machines (TVMs) will be implemented, which will be one of the several features on this corridor introduced for the first time in India.
In addition to the UPI-based payments, commuters can buy tickets using cash, credit/debit cards, UPI and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) wallets. Passengers can also pay for tickets through the Rapidx Connect mobile application by generating a digital QR code.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) plans to revise the fare chart of the Delhi-Meerut Rapidx train to make it more competitive than existing transportation modes. The estimated fare will range between Rs 3 to 4 per km. Commuters may have to pay around Rs 170-200 for travel between Anand Vihar and Meerut Central.

How to buy UPI-based tickets on the Rapidx train?
- Step 1: Tap on the ‘Buy Ticket’ option on the TVMC screen.
- Step 2: Choose the destination station from the stations’ chart and the number of tickets you want to buy.
- Step 3: Choose the UPI option from the next window of payment options.
- Step 4: POS terminal of TVM will generate a QR code. Commuters can scan the code from any UPI-based payment application such as Paytm, Google Pay, PhonePe or a UPI-enabled net banking app.
- Step 5: The TVM will generate a paper QR ticket.
The 17-kilometre (km) priority section from Sahibabad and Duhai is expected to be operational in June 2023. The entire section under Phase 1 is expected to be completed by 2025.
