With allocation of 2,500 crore in the 2023-24 state Budget, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is all set to implement its expansion plans towards the Old City and RGI Airport. Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao has allotted Rs 1,500 crore for HMRL and Rs 500 crore each for the Old City and Airport Metro expansion.
According to Rao, with the growing number of travellers to the airport every day, there is a need to meet the requirements of four crore passengers per year.

The Airport Metro will begin operations from Raidurg and terminate at RGI Airport at Shamshabad, covering 31 kms. CM K Chandrasekhar Rao recently laid the foundation for the expansion of the project that is expected to be completed in the next three years. Note that the Old City Metro project received a budget of Rs 500 crore in last year’s budget. However, work on it has not yet commenced.
