The Mhada Mumbai Board was to launch its much-anticipated Diwali 2025 housing lottery and give away over 5,000 houses across Mumbai and its suburbs. All projects that are spread more than 4,000 sqm should reserve 20% in construction projects for the general public and that information has to be provided to the Mhada. There have been cases where developers have not told Mhada about this information. According to Loksatta Marathi report, the Mhada Vigilance Department has taken an action based on which this will stop now and people will be able to avail the 20% scheme.

Mhada MBRR Board conducts lottery for 178 applicants in Mumbai
The Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) of MHADA conducted a computerised lottery draw for 178 eligible applicants listed on the Master List on April 24, 2025 at 1 PM at the Bharatratna Gulzarilal Nanda Hall, Mhada Headquarters, Bandra (East).
This initiative constitutes an important component of Mhada’s 100-Day Action Plan that strives to provide permanent housing to eligible occupants of cess buildings fulfilling the Mhada’s mandate to ensure housing security for citizens.
Around 105 people were given the housing units in this lucky draw. Additionally, Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, vice president and chief executive officer, Mhada mentioned that going forward, the eligible original tenants and residents listed in the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board’s (MBRRB) master list will be charged only 100% of the Ready Reckoner Rate, instead of the earlier 110%, for the additional area allotted beyond the permissible or original area of their old residential units. This relief will be applied retrospectively to beneficiaries declared eligible in the December 2023 lottery. A new policy framework to this effect will be finalised by April 28, 2025.
