PM to inaugurate Kolkata’s Joka-Taratala Metro section on Dec 30, 2022

Ghaziabad Development Authority asks DMRC to prepare metrolite on two metro routes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Joka-Taratala Metro section in Kolkata on December 30, 2022, virtually from the Howrah station. Modi will inaguarte West Bengal’s first Vande Bharat Express service from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri.

The 6.5-km section is part of the 15 Km Kolkata metro project line 3 or the purple line connecting Joka Metro Station in the south to Esplanade in the north.

Commuters will be able to use the Metro line in a day or two after its formal launch, Ekalabya Chakraborty, CPRO Eastern Railway, said.

Metro Railway, Kolkata, is in charge of Kolkata’s rapid transit system and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and entrusted with implementing Metro projects. The Metro Railway Officials are working on fine-tuning the system before the inauguration.

The 6.5 truncated Joka-Taratala section was ready. However, the automatic fare collection (AFC) gates reached RVNL only on December 6, 2022 and they were installed over the last few weeks across six stations and trials were conducted. As per a senior RVNL official, commuters can swipe in using smart cards or tokens for commuting on the new Metro route.
