UP to link Agra-Lucknow Expressway to Purvanchal Expressway

Agra-Lucknow Expressway

The Uttar Pradesh government plans to build an expressway linking two of the busiest expressways in the state, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the Purvanchal Expressway.

While presenting the state Budget for the financial year 2024-25, UP finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on February 5 said his government has allocated a budget of Rs 500 crore for this road project.

The link road would ensure better connectivity between the national capital Delhi and far-east cities in Uttar Pradesh.

Built for Rs 11,527 crore (excluding the cost of the land), the Agra Lucknow Expressway is a 302.222-kilometre-long access-controlled road project with six lanes. The high-speed corridor connects Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, with Agra in western Uttar Pradesh, reducing the travel time between the two points from five-and-a-half hours to three hours.

Inaugurated on November 16, 2021, the 343-km Purvanchal Expressway starts at Chand Saray village in Lucknow and terminates at Ghazipur’s Haidaria village. In the middle, the Purvanchal expressway route also has Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkarnagar and Mau.
