- Main door should have a threshold: Design a threshold at the main door, ideally made of concrete and wood. Do ensure that the house is not on the same level as the ground. This helps create a positive environment inside the house.
- Entrance door colour: Avoid dark colours like black colour as it can give rise to negative emotions. Choose soft yellows, wooden hues, or earthy shades.
- Avoid corner placement: Never place the entry door in the corner of the room. Besides being inconvenient, it can cause obstructions in the flow of positive energies.

- Remove defective doors: Check for dents or scratches on the main door, as these are not advisable. Cracked doors can lead to loss of respect. If the house entrance door is damaged or has cracks, make sure you immediately replace it with a new door. Broken, cracked or chipped doors are considered as Vastu dosha that can affect the finances and overall well-being of the family members.
- Choose Vastu-compliant door handles: For south facing house, brass handles for wooden doors are an ideal choice. If it is a west facing door, use metal door handles. For home entrance facing east, Vastu recommends a combination of wood and metal while silver is suggested for north facing doors.
- Entrance lock and keys: As the keys are made up of metal to balance the energies go in for wooden key chains. Opt for auspicious symbols for locks and keys. Discard them if they are rusted or broken. Use a copper lock for east, iron lock for west, brass locks for north and ‘panch dhatu’ (five metals) for south main door.
- Material: Choose superior quality wood for door, typically wood from teak wood, mahagony, oak wood, etc. Avoid using wood from coconut or peepal trees.
