Kohima is the capital of Nagaland and is home to 100,000 people, being the second-biggest city in the State as well. It was originally called Kewhira and was established in 1878. It became the capital once the State was formed in 1963. It is a municipality and district alike. There are a total of 19 wards under the Kohima Municipal Council. The languages spoken here include Angami, Ao, Sumi, Lotha, and Chakhesang. The population of the area stood at 115,283 people as of the year 2011 while the total area covered by Kohima is 20 square kilometers. The coordinates of Kohima are 25.67°N 94.10°E.
