Kasauli is a prominent hill station situated in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. It was established by the British Raj in 1842 as a Colonial hill station, close to Shimla, Chandigarh and Ambala Cantt (Haryana). It is also an important Railway Junction of North India. Legend says that it came into existence after Lord Hanuman placed his feet here in order to advance on to the Sanjeevani hill. The place where the lord actually kept his feet is believed to be at a hillock which is 300 m high. The nearest rail head from Kasauli is Kalka. Buses, coaches and taxis ply quite frequently from Kasauli to Chandigarh and Delhi. The area is close to National Highway 22 thus making commuting easy for its residents. Educational institutions in or near Kasauli are the Lawrence School Sanawar, The Pinegrove School, St. Mary's Convent School, all co-educational, and the school at Kasauli's K.V. Air Force Station. The major landmarks of Kasauli are Baptish Church, Central Research Institute, Christ Church, Gurudwara Shri Guru Nanak Ji, Kasauli Brewery, Nahri Temple and Kasauli Club.
