North facing house Vastu plan, significance and design tips

Vastu tips to ensure your north-facing home is auspicious

Vastu says that a good or bad property is determined by its entrance direction, among other factors such as placement of rooms, furniture, colour, etc. and the presence of Vastu defects. North, east and northeast-facing homes are considered the most auspicious, according to Vastu Shastra. The auspiciousness of a house also depends on the owner’s nature (as per Ayurveda), occupation (as per varna), and planetary position according to the astrological chart. However, for a north facing house to be truly rewarding, the whole house should be Vastu-compliant and the defects should be rectified.

If you wish to invite prosperity in your life, then it is essential to follow some Vastu guidelines for your north facing property. A north facing house, as per Vastu, can be made auspicious by constructing the main door in the north direction and staircase in the south, west, south-east, south-west, or north-west directions.

In this article, we discuss about the north facing house Vastu plan.

What is a north-facing house?

North-facing plot

A home, where the main entry is towards the north direction, is a north-facing home. Many people believe that a house is north facing if there is a road on the north side of it, which is not right. The direction of a house is determined by the position of its main door.

How to identify a north-facing house?

Finding the direction, a house is facing is crucial since a slight difference by three or four degrees will change the overall calculation of the 16 Vastu Zone and will make it difficult to identify the root cause of problems. To identify the direction a house is facing, stand outside the main entrance with the house behind you. Now, take a compass and place it horizontally on your hand in front of your chest. The compass needle will freely float till the zero-degree mark and the North end of the needle are aligned, determining the magnetic North direction.

North facing house main door Vastu

In a north-facing house, the main entrance door faces the north direction. Even in the north direction, the fifth step or pada is believed to be the most auspicious one, meant to bring you wealth, because it is the house of lord Kubera.

Furthermore, the 3rd, 4th and 8th padas, which are Mukhya, Bhallat and Diti, respectively, are also considered auspicious. As per main door Vastu, choosing any of these padas for the main door placement will attract wealth.

When investing a north-facing property, make sure to check the position of the main entrance. Position the main door in 3rd, 4th and 8th padas to gain maximum benefits.

The distance between the north-east and north-west, is divided into nine equal parts and it is the fifth pada that is auspicious and beneficial for one’s spiritual enlightenment. Do not place the door in the sixth pada. Avoid the main entrance in the northwest direction.

Significance of padas and deities

Deity Meaning Role and significance
Mukhya Main deity of the building Bestows the power of manifestation to the building
Bhallat Huge or colossal Grants abundance to a colossal level
Diti Mother of asuras Provides all riches, expands vision and perspective

No pada in the north is inauspicious. This is why a north-facing house is considered good. However, while placing the main door, you can note the following for prosperity:

  • To attract wealth: Each pada determines what kind of energy you are letting into your home. As already mentioned, the fifth pada is the most auspicious, because it is the location of God of Wealth, Kuber. Hence, if the door is placed in the fifth pada, you will attract money.
  • Alternative to fifth pada: Now suppose your fifth pada is small or not suitable for the door, you can use the first to fourth pada, as well. However, not leave out the fifth pada. You can use the sixth to ninth pada, if you have no option at all to place it in another pada.
  • Caution: If you happen to use the first pada, in that case, the main door or the entrance should not touch the north east corner. It is advisable to leave some space from this corner. Do not consider the 6th pada for designing the north entry main door of the house as it can lead to in health problems.
