About 8 kilometers (5 miles) from South Delhi, on the Southern Delhi Ridge of the Aravalli range in Faridabad city, Haryana state, is where you will find an old reservoir dating back to the 10th century known as Surajkund. The Aravalli hills provide a backdrop for Surajkund ('Lake of the Sun'), an artificial Kund ('Kund' meaning "lake" or reservoir) with a semicircular embankment. One theory places its construction in the 10th century at the hands of Tomara dynasty monarch Surajpal. Tomar, the ruler's younger son and a sun worshipper, erected a Sun temple on the river's western bank. The "Surajkund International Craft Mela" is an annual fair held in Surajkund; the 2015 edition attracted 1.2 million attendees, 160,000 of whom were foreigners; and more than 20 nations were represented at the event.
