About 8 kilometers (5 miles) from South Delhi, on the Southern Delhi Ridge of the Aravalli range in Faridabad city, Haryana state, is where you will find an old reservoir dating back to the 10th century known as Surajkund. The Aravalli hills provide a backdrop for Surajkund ('Lake of the Sun'), an artificial Kund ('Kund' meaning "lake" or reservoir) with a semicircular embankment. One theory places its construction in the 10th century at the hands of Tomara dynasty monarch Surajpal. Tomar, the ruler's younger son and a sun worshipper, erected a Sun temple on the river's western bank. The "Surajkund International Craft Mela" is an annual fair held in Surajkund; the 2015 edition attracted 1.2 million attendees, 160,000 of whom were foreigners; and more than 20 nations were represented at the event. From Mangar Bani in the west to Tuglaqabad in the east, there are a total of 43 paleolithic sites (100,000 BC) spread throughout the area surrounding the Surajkund that have been found to include rock art and microlithic stone tools. This is a nice place to stay. There are shops, restaurants, and great hotels located in the area. The roads are in good condition. There are lots of greeneries and parks located here. Traffic jam is a major concern in the area.
