Indore District, Madhya Pradesh, India

Indore is the biggest and highest-populated city within the State of Madhya Pradesh. It is the headquarters for the Indore Division and District alike. It is also a leading educational hub of the State with campuses of leading institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the IIM (Indian Institute of Management). Indore is also 553 meters above sea level. It lies 190 km away from the capital of Bhopal. Indore goes back to the 16th century when it was a key trading point between Delhi and the Deccan. Indore also has its own financial district in the city centre which also houses the Madhya Pradesh Stock Exchange. The city covers 525 square kilometres and is governed by the Indore Municipal Corporation. The population of the city stood at 1,994,397 people as of the year 2011. The coordinates of Indore are 22°43′0″N 75°50′50″E.
