Mangalore or Mangaluru as it is also known, is a leading port on the Arabian Sea and a leading commercial hub of Karnataka. It houses landmarks like the Kadri Manjunath Temple and also the Mangaladevi Temple that dates back to the 9th century. There is also the St. Aloysius Chapel and the city is positioned between the Western Ghats and Arabian Sea. Other landmarks include the Rosario Cathedral and the Panambur Beach. The city lies within the Dakshina Kannada district while being a part of the Mangalore Taluk as well. It covers a total area of 170 square kilometers with a population estimated at 484,786 people as of the year 2011. The languages spoken here include Kannada and English along with several other regional languages as well. The coordinates of Mangalore are 12°54′07″N 74°49′31″E.
