The city of Satara is situated in the Satara District in the Indian state of Maharashtra, close to the meeting point of the Krishna River and its tributary, the Venna. It serves as both the Satara District's and the Satara Tehsil's administrative center. Its coordinates are 17.688°N 74.006°E and has an average elevation of 742 m. It spreads over an area of 22.42 km2. Marathi is the official language of this city. As of 2011 India census, Satara had a population of 179,147. The comparatively high altitude and mountains that surround Satara city contribute to the city's tropical wet and dry climate. Some of the best tourist attractions in this city include Kaas Pathar, Thoseghar Waterfall, Sajjangad, Pratapgad Fort, Chalkewadi Windmill Farms, Koyna Dam, Dholya Ganapati, Lodwick Point etc. Infrastructure and Details On National Highway 48, Satara is roughly 250 km (by the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and PB Road) from Mumbai and 110 km (through Pune) from that city. trains running from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Kolhapur via Satara. On the Satara Pandharpur Road, a distance of around 7 kilometers from the Satara Bus Stand, is where Mahuli is located near Satara's train station.
