Kohima is the capital of Nagaland and is home to 100,000 people, being the second-biggest city in the State as well. It was originally called Kewhira and was established in 1878. It became the capital once the State was formed in 1963. It is a municipality and district alike. There are a total of 19 wards under the Kohima Municipal Council. The languages spoken here include Angami, Ao, Sumi, Lotha, and Chakhesang.
