Howrah Railway Station

Howrah, an industrial city in the state of West Bengal is well known for the famous Howrah Bridge. The city is located on the banks of the gracious Hooghly River and is known as a twin city to Kolkata. Howrah is connected to Kolkata by four bridges - Howrah Bridge, Vidyasagar Setu, Vivekanand Setu and Nivedita Setu. Howrah Station serves as a terminal for the Eastern Railway and the South Eastern Railway Zones of India. Howrah Station is the major Railway Station catering to the needs of Howrah, Kolkata and other neighboring districts. Being a part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway it enjoys great connectivity to various stations of Howrah, Bardhman, East Midnapore and West Midnapore through suburban trains. There are six other stations namely: Tikiapara, Dasnagar, Santragachhi, Ramrajatala, Padmapukur and Shalimar Station that are parts of the South Eastern Railway Network. The city also boasts of a great connectivity through very strong network of roads. Two national highways - NH-2 and NH-6 are well connected to Vidyasagar Setu via Kona Expressway. Kona Expressway connects Kolkata to NH-2 and is a part of Golden Quadrilateral Project. The Expressway joins NH-6 as well in the Nibra town of the district. The famous Grand Trunk Road has its one end point at the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden where the famous Great Banyan Tree stands tall with its full grace. Howrah is witnessing a lot of new industrial proposals like the Kona Truck Terminus and Kolkata West International City.
