Peren, the eleventh and newest district of Nagaland, formed because of the bifurcation of Kohima district. Zeme Nagas are the main residents here. Peren covers the area of 2300 sq km with the coordinates of 25.554°N 93.740 °E. This district has the population of 94954 out of which 49,714 are male and 45,505 are female and people here experience tropical type to sub-tropical to temperate climates. People here speak Zeme, Kuki and English, as it is their official language.

And as it is a mountainous area, this district has some beautiful places to visit like Mt Pauna (35 km), Mt Kisa (28 km), Ntanki National Park (40 km) and Caves at Puilwa Village (30 km). As Peren is well connected to the state capital of Kohima and Dimapur by road which is connected to rest of the world. So, from Dimapur one can reach to Peren only by taking Nagaland State transportation Bus or Private mini bus/ Cab/ Sumo. There is no railway connection in the district of Peren, that makes Dimapur railway station as the only railway station from Peren. Nearest Airport of Peren is Dimapur Airport (56 km). Some of the reputed schools in here are Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Peren, Assam Rifles School, St Victoria Middle School etc. Colleges like St Xaviers College, Peren Government college are also located here. Peren houses hospitals like Civil Hospital, Community Health Care Centre Jalukia etc. Some of the nearby shopping places here are K.A.K and Naga Bazaar.
