Bhadravati is situated in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka state, India. The city is also known as an industrial city or steel town. It is approximately 255 kilometers away from Bengaluru and 12mi away from Shivamogga. The town is around 65 sq kilometers and has population of approximately 1, 55,000. The name of the city derives from the River Bhadra that flows in the town. Historically, the city was known as Venkipuri with "venki" meaning turning of the river. The river takes a 90-degree turn in the city to flow towards the west. The city lies between Western Ghats and AreMalenad region. The city has an established iron industry. Mysore Paper mills is also a prominent establishment in the city. Kannada is the main language spoken in this city. Bhadravati experiences few very humid months along with extremely calm winds. Tourist attractions include the Lakshmi Temple, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Bhadra dam. Bhadravati has now evolved to be a planned modern city with adequate roads and rail services.
