Chidambaram is a town and municipality in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district, where the Vellar River meets the Bay of Bengal. It is the administrative center of the Chidambaram taluk. The town was ruled at various times by the Pallavas until the ninth century, the Medieval Cholas, the Later Cholas, the Later Pandyas, the Vijayanagar Empire, and the Thanjavur Nayakas, the Marathas, and the British. The town is famous for the Thillai Nataraja Temple and the Thillai Kali Temple, as well as the yearly chariot festival held from December–January. The Nataraj Mandir Additionally known as Thillai Nataraj Temple, Chidambaram is also known as Thillai Nataraj Temple. Lord Shiva is honored by this temple. It lies in the southern Indian state of Tamilnadu. The temple has a strong connection to mythology. When the town's name was Thillai, there was a Shiva shrine in the temple. The total area of the locality is around 4.8 km. With 30,582 male population and 31,571 female population, the area has a total population of 62,153. - Cabs & private taxis are not always available easily in the area
- In many areas flyovers are required to ease the traffic congestion
- Due to under construction projects, road conditions are not very good and the drainage system is a little bit messy
- During night time few places need to tracked by police patrolling. Need to install more CCTVs in a few small lanes, especially deserted places
- The Interior of the city, especially the village part requires more street lights. during night it is very difficult
